It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
